Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain underwent a medical at St George’s Park on Wednesday evening ahead of his impending move to Liverpool.
The two clubs agreed a £35m fee for the 24-year-old earlier on Wednesday after the player turned down a move to Chelsea.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was hoping to keep hold of the former Southampton man this summer, but with talks over an extension hitting an impasse and with the player into the final 12 months of his current deal, the ‘Gunners’ had no option but to sell.
‘The Ox’ rejected a £180,000 per week deal to remain at the Emirates and is thought to have accepted less at Liverpool than he would have earned at Stamford Bridge as he believes Jurgen Klopp will give him more chances to play in his preferred central midfield position.
The player’s decision to reject Chelsea in favor of Liverpool is thought to have irked Wenger, who would have preferred that he join the ‘Blues’.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is currently on international duty with England ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia, hence the medical being done at St George’s Park.
The move is expected to be completed in the coming hours.
