Jose Mourinho will smash the club’s transfer record to bring in Real Madrid star Marco Asensio according to reports.
Paul Pogba currently stands as Manchester United’s most expensive player after he was bought for £89million.
But Spanish outlet Don Balon claims Mourinho is hoping to sign the 21-year-old for a huge £177m.
Asensio has been linked with making a move to Old Trafford before but his huge price tag has reportedly put United off making a formal approach.
Don Balon, however, claims Mourinho has already reached out to the Spaniard over a move and United will be ready to splash the cash next summer.
The midfielder has started eight times for the La Liga giants this season, scoring four goals and grabbing two assists.
In other transfer news Barcelona are said to be preparing to offer defender Samuel Umtiti a new deal amid interest from United.
Reports emerged last week that Mourinho was interested in the France international and according to Sport the La Liga giants want to secure his long term future.
In order to stave off interest from Premier League sides Barcelona will also increase his £53m release clause.
United had reportedly identified Umtiti as one of their top transfer targets due to his relatively cheap buy out clause, but with Barcelona looking to increase it United could change their minds.
