It was 10 years ago when Kaka won his Ballon d’Or, the last player to do so before Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi made the award their own.
Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leitem, better known as Kaka, has just announced his retirement at age 35.
After winning the Champions League with Milan, which included a memorable match at Old Trafford, his award was indisputable.
He was the clear winner and also took the FIFA World Player accolade (before it was unified with the Ballon d’Or (and finally became The Best)).
Since 2007, Ronaldo and Messi have won five each.
The Portuguese in 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017 and the Argentinian in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015.
