Jurgen Klopp picks out his Man of the Match against West Ham

Jurgen Klopp was keen to highlight the unsung role Roberto Firmino played in Liverpool’s resounding victory over West Ham on Saturday evening.

The Reds claimed an easy 4-1 win thanks to a brace from the excellent Mohamed Salah, as well as strikes from Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in each half.

Despite only claiming he would get a brief run out off the bench, Klopp also fielded Sadio Mane for the first time since the start of October, and he claimed two assists.

While Klopp was full of praise for Mane and Salah afterwards, he felt Firmino deserved a special mention for his tireless work in leading the line.

Talking to BT Sport after the much, Klopp said: ‘I guess the Man of the Match today is Mo Salah?

‘For me it’s Roberto Firmino. I’m not sure if I ever saw a player play – after the third game in a week – with such intensity and I’m a few days in the business.

‘Or Sadio Mane after one proper session – I think he could have played 90 minutes, that’s unbelievable!’

Speaking at his press conference, he repeated that message: ‘I like to talk about Salah and Mane, but please do not forget about Firmino – what a performance.

He was angry not to score!’ Firmino ended a run of seven Premier League games without netting when he scored against Huddersfield last time out, though couldn’t get on the score sheet as Liverpool moved up to sixth place in the table.
