Records, titles and huge sums of money. That is the language spoken by Cristiano Ronaldo. The reigning Ballon d’Or winner proved decisive in Madrid’s Club World Cup triumph, begging the question: How much money have his goals earned Real?
Ronaldo’s ambition is insatiable. Having equalled Lionel Messi’s haul by winning his fifth Ballon d’Or at the Eiffel Tower, the Madrid star turned his attention to the Club World Cup. He did not stop until they had lifted trophy number eight in Zidane’s tenure at the club.
A striker whose decisive goals have already given Real Madrid a true fortune. In the 2010/11 Copa del Rey, Ronaldo netted seven times en route to the final, where he scored the winner against Barcelona. This signified a €1 million income for the ‘Blancos’.
46 goals and 12 assists the following season, in which he also netted in both legs of the 2012 Spanish Supercup, earning Madrid another million. His superb 2013/14 Champions League campaign, scoring one of his 17 goals in the final against Atletico, allowed the Spanish giants to take home around €28 million.
The subsequent Supercup gave Madrid three million, with the Portuguese ace scoring twice against Sevilla. His exploits saw Zidane’s men crown themselves European champions twice in succession, earning Madrid €41 million.
As well as brushing aside Juventus in Cardiff, Real also clinched La Liga in 2017. Ronaldo’s 25 goals in 29 appearances gave Real Madrid a further €20 million, while €5 million went Madrid’s way thanks to their Supercup and Club World Cup triumphs.
Aside from the marketing and publicity aspect, his goals have certainly allowed his signing in 2009, for a then world-record fee, to pay for itself with trophies.
