After handing in a transfer request and trying to force a move to Barcelona, Philippe Coutinho is now in an awkward position at Liverpool. With the transfer window closed, his return to Merseyside is now in the horizon.
As reported by Sky Sports, Coutinho could return to the Liverpool squad shortly. Jurgen Klopp, whose relationship with the player was reportedly stifled due to the frustrated move, could call upon the Brazilian for next week’s Premier League clash against Manchester City.
The playmaker is yet to feature for Liverpool this season after Klopp stated he was struggling with back pain. Coutinho played for Brazil, scoring against Ecuador, and the German manager will now assess his fitness before calling him back for Saturday’s fixture.
Barcelona had three bids rejected for the 25-year-old, before the Reds included Coutinho in their Premier League squad. A clear declaration of their intention to retain the forward.
After the alleged breakdown in his relationship with the manager, the tension could be assuaged once he returns to action for Liverpool who, given their great form in recent weeks, will surely find the prospect of having their star man back to bolster their ranks appealing.
