City boss Pep Guardiola has been keen on the Chilean all summer but has so far failed in his attempts to convince Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger to part with the star.
Sanchez scored 30 goals in 51 appearances for the ‘Gunners’ last season but has just 11 months remaining on his contract at the Emirates and is stalling over a new deal.
Arsenal’s stance had been that they would not sell the player this summer, with Wenger hoping to ocnvince him to sign a new contract before the end of the season, however it appears that City have seriously tested Arsenal’s resolve with a player-plus-cash bid.
English publication ‘The Daily Mail’ reports that the ‘Citizens have offered Arsenal around £20m in cash plus winger Raheem Sterling in exchange for Sanchez.
The same source claims that the offer has taken Arsenal by surprise due to its unexpected and unprecedented nature.
The offer will force the Londoners to seriously consider their stance on Sanchez, whilst Wenger’s side also look to be on the verge of losing winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who is thought to be in talks with Chelsea after they agreed a fee of around £35m with Arsenal for his services.
Both Sanchez and Oxlade-Chamberlain have turned down new deals in the English capital with the former said to have rejected a £300,000 per week and the latter a £180,000 per week.
The offer of Sterling comes as quite the surprise, especially after his promising early season form that saw him bag vital late goals against both Everton and Bournemouth.
Despite that though, the 22-year-old has only started one Premier League game so far this season and with City’s embarrassment of riches in attacking positions, he is considered to be somewhat expendable.
Is this set to be the deal of the summer in the Premier League? And if so, who would be the winners?
