The severity of Dani Carvajal’s illness is not yet known, but fears are growing in the Real Madrid camp that the 25-year-old could be out for a considerable length of time.
The player back or take any risks with him, despite his significant importance for Zinedine Zidane and the team since returning to the Spanish capital in 2013.
Until the recent diagnosis, Carvajal had been the only player to complete all 990 minutes of Real’s eleven matches this season, and recently extended his Madrid contract until 2022.
The condition, rarely seen in football, is clearly very sensitive and it will ultimately be the doctors who decide when he can first return to training and then return to competitive action again.
However, despite concerns in the Spanish capital, sources close to the player suggest that he will only be out for a couple of weeks and could feature in Zidane’s squad sooner than expected.
The club is running out of options at full-back after the sale of Brazilian defender Danilo to Manchester City in the summer left teenager Achraf as the only real replacement for Carvajal.
