Brendan Rodgers and his wife have been left stunned after her former husband committed suicide.
Steven Hind, 35, who was married to Charlotte Searle for 17 months, was found dead ‘slumped behind a door’ in a hotel room on Friday along with a suicide note.
Friends say Hind struggled to cope with his divorce from Ms Searle in 2013 – and especially since she move from Liverpool to Glasgow, where Hind’s young daughter was taken with Ms Searle 200 miles north to live in Scotland.
One friend told The Sun on Sunday: ‘Steve thought he had a perfect life and perfect family, but one day it all came crashing down.
‘He tried to keep a brave face on, but deep down it got to him.’
The friend added that the former business development manager never really got over the split and ‘seeing his wife and daughter with a millionaire and well-known personality made it that much harder’.
The source added: ‘His family is absolutely devastated. If only he knew how many people cared for him.’
Hind, who lived in Southport, Lancashire, was found dead in a hotel room in Surbiton, South West London, after failing to arrive at the financial company where he worked.
After divorcing in 2013, his relationship with his wife deteriorated further when in 2014 he was handed a 12-weeknight curfew after he admitted to stalking Charlotte Searle.
he hearing heard that he contacted her, saying: ‘I’m really sorry. I know I’m not allowed to contact you. I was a terrible husband.’
Although Rodgers, 44, was not mentioned in the case it is believed he and Searle started their relationship shortly after their split.
The pair met when Searle was working as Liverpool FC travel coordinator and while the Northern Irishman was still the manage at Anfield. Rodgers divorced from his former wife, Susan, who he was married to for 24 years in 2015.
Rodgers and Searle married this year, just four months after he proposed in New York.
A police spokesperson said of Mr Hind’s death: ‘A man in his 30s was found slumped behind a door. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a suicide note was found in the room.’
Rodgers was in the dugout as his Celtic team beat Dundee yesterday.
