Emergency meeting of the Board of Bartomeu
On Monday afternoon, Barcelona will hold an extraordinary meeting of the Board of Directors at the Camp Nou, one day after playing the league game against UD Las Palmas behind closed doors.
The measure was an intermediate solution to compensate for the refusal of the Federation and LaLiga to cancel the match, and to avoid sporting sanctions for non-appearance.
Players and coaches, except for Pique and a few others, were not in favour of losing six points and preferred to show their rejection of Spanish Police brutality by playing in a completely empty stadium.
The debate that took place within the club has meant two resignations along the way, that of the institutional vice president Carles Vilarrubíi and that of Jordi Mones.
Both wanted to postpone the game as a sign of protest for actions that were carried out throughout Catalonia, designed to prevent the vote on Catalan independence.
It is one of the worst crises that Bartomeu – who and only a few days ago was freed of a motion of censorship after Agusti Benedito didn’t secure the necessary support – has had to deal with.
Barcelona have announced that after the emergency meeting, at about 16.00 CET, there will be a public appearance in the press room of the Camp Nou.
It is unknown who in charge of officiating it and if there will be a chance for journalists to ask questions.
